Passage: Matthew 2:1-12
Creation proclaims that Jesus is King
- Numbers 24:17: " I see him, but not now; I perceive him, but not near. A star will come from Jacob, and a scepter will arise from Israel."
Prophets proclaim that Jesus is King
- Micah 5:2: "Bethlehem Ephrathah, you are small among the clans of Judah; one will come from you to be ruler over Israel for me. His origin is from antiquity, from ancient times."
- This is only 1 of 5 fulfillment passages concerning Jesus’ birth and early years that Matthew places on display to help us see Jesus is King
Nations proclaim that Jesus is King
But each of these proclamations is incomplete. What is needed is the Gospel!
Creation does not proclaim the Gospel
- Romans 1:18-25: " For God’s wrath is revealed from heaven against all godlessness and unrighteousness of people who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth, since what can be known about God is evident among them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, that is, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen since the creation of the world, being understood through what he has made. As a result, people are without excuse. For though they knew God, they did not glorify him as God or show gratitude. Instead, their thinking became worthless, and their senseless hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man, birds, four-footed animals, and reptiles. Therefore God delivered them over in the desires of their hearts to sexual impurity, so that their bodies were degraded among themselves. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served what has been created instead of the Creator, who is praised forever. Amen.
Prophecy does not proclaim the Gospel
- Acts 8:30-31: "When Philip ran up to it, he heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, “Do you understand what you’re reading?” “How can I,” he said, “unless someone guides me?” So he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. "
Nations do not proclaim the Gospel
- Islam shows respect to Jesus, Hinduism says Jesus is a god, atheism says Jesus was a very good man, but none of these religions proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ
Will you proclaim that Jesus is King by proclaiming the Gospel?
