Shortly after becoming certified foster parents in February 2016, Rob and Lilly Nix welcomed a sibling set of two into their home and lives. As first-time parents, Rob and Lilly found themselves on a steep learning curve – in addition to adjusting to being parents of a one-year-old boy and a three-year-old girl, they were learning how to connect and care for children who had experienced significant trauma.
In the midst of these challenges, Rob and Lilly worked hard to connect with and earn the trust of these two precious children. They relied on strategies and parenting techniques they learned at Crossroads NOLA’s TBRI training events. They learned how to diffuse difficult situations and how to build the children’s capacity for behavioral and emotional regulation.
With time, hard work, and very intentional parenting, Rob and Lilly began to see the kids grow and thrive. Seven months ago, Rob and Lilly welcomed their daughter into the world. And, just over a month ago, their two foster children were officially and permanently welcomed into the Nix family through adoption!
This is what the work of Crossroads NOLA is all about – connecting children in foster care to the families they need to thrive. We are grateful for churches like FBNO who care for and support foster families and we’re grateful for families like the Nixes who are willing to invest time and energy learning and implementing TBRI parenting strategies that help children thrive!
