Some of our most faithful church members are two people who go into the Orleans Parish Prison week after week. Most of our Care Effect volunteers serve with an FBNO team, but these volunteers have been going into the prison on their own for a couple of years now. It is sometimes difficult to get the necessary credentials to go into the prison, so new volunteers are few and far between. We are excited that our women’s team will be doubling soon, because we are adding one more volunteer to our approved list!
Please be praying for this ministry as they overcome one roadblock after another. In the past, we regularly took in Bibles to give to prisoners who were hungry for the Word of God. While we can still lead Bible studies, we are no longer allowed to give away Bibles. Another obstacle is the staffing situation at the prison. Our chaplains are often turned away from ministering in cell blocks, because there is not sufficient staff to cover those blocks.
The prisoners welcome our volunteers and are receptive to the gospel. They share prayer requests for their families as well as their own personal struggles. Many enter into a relationship with Jesus while on the inside. They ask for prayer for the time that they will be released, and re-enter the life that they lived on the outside.
This ministry is supported by your praying, giving and going through Global Impact. Our GI year runs from November to October, so today is the last Sunday to contribute to the 2017 offering. Please use the green envelope in your worship guide to support our prison ministry along with the work of the International and North American Mission Boards, church planters in New Orleans and all over Louisiana, FBNO’s international mission work, and all of our Care Effect ministries here in New Orleans. Your Global Impact dollar goes a long way to make disciples and care for those in need.
